Beautiful Books gets Text
Beautiful Books has signed a deal with artist Tracey Moberly for a "part autobiography, part artwork about the notions of communication" based on a decade's worth of text messages.
Publisher Simon Petherick acquired world rights to Text Me Up! via agent Cat Ledger, for a "good four-figure sum". The book is due to be published in April 2011, as a full colour hardback.
Alongside publication, Moberly is expected to have a "major" exhibition of her work on texts, although details are yet to be confirmed.
Petherick said: "I think the book will have the capacity to cross-over from the “art world” to the general reader because of the subject matter: no-one has yet analysed the way we use texts to express emotions from the simple to the complex, and Tracey is such an approachable artist, someone who is recognisably at tune with the general reader, that she can I think create a book which is a trendleader about the way we use phones to communicate."
He added that Beautiful Books would work in a variety of media – including print, e-book, audio, and physical exhibition – over a period of at least 24 months.
